Reference: The Disney film Pinocchio was released in Feb 1940. The merchandising campaign that went with it was described (and promoted) in Women's Wear Daily, eg 8 Feb 1940 p 3 - 'we give you, for instance, Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio's spry and wide-awake little Conscience... in the form of costume jewelry, lapel gadgets.. and all sorts of related merchandise'; click thumbnail above to view. The 6 March issue devoted a whole section to Pinocchio promotions, listing on p 8 the licensed manufacturers, including for jewelry Cartier Inc NY (fine jewelry), Brier Mfg, Providence RI (syndicate store jewelry), Speidel Corp Providence RI (department store jewelry): this pin was made by one of the last two.
