Marked: MB (phrygian cap), & (ampersand, with serifs), one earring; S (with serifs) the other; Pat 1649187 (both screw mechanisms)
Reference: Brunialti, American Costume Jewelry - Art and Industry (2008) Vol 1, pp. 47-61, part of the metallic enamel animals, flowers and fruits series of 1940-41, some patented. Earring patent (reproduced below) is for a 'Safety Back Device for Ear Ornaments', filed Oct 1926, granted to Philip Reiter of New York Nov 1927. (17 yr standard duration)
